Question: What is The Harvesters Trust
Answer:

The Harvesters Trust is a Registered Charity (no.1031741), and operates according to a Trust Deed. The Trust was officially registered with the Charity Commission in December 1993. We are also members of the Evangelical Alliance.

Our aim is to financially support Christian workers whilst, at the same time, raising and investing a large sum of money in order to produce an annual income. This income will support Christian workers and organisations until the day of our Lord's return. We also give to help the poor and needy as resources allow.

Question: What do you believe in?
Answer:

The Harvesters Trust has a "Statement Of Beliefs".

  • The Sovereignty and grace of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit in creation, providence, revelation, redemption and final judgement.
  • The divine inspiration of Holy Scripture and its consequent entire trustworthiness and supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
  • The universal sinfulness and guilt of fallen man making him subject to God's wrath and condemnation.
  • The substitutionary sacrifice of the incarnate Son of God as the sole and all-sufficient ground of redemption from the guilt and power of sin and its eternal consequences.
  • The justification of the sinner solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ crucified and risen from the dead.
  • The illuminating, regenerating, indwelling and sanctifying work of God the Holy Spirit.
  • The priesthood of all believers who form the universal church, the body of which Christ is the Head and which is committed by His command to the proclamation of the Gospel throughout the world.
  • The expectation of the personal visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ in power and glory.

Question: What will you do with the donations?
Answer:

The Harvesters Trust are committed to making every penny count. Since our formation in 1993 we have raised more than £110,000 and made grants totalling in excess of £85,000. For every pound raised LESS THAN TEN PENCE has been spent on operating costs.

Specifically we intend to invest all donations given through this Web site. We have a special charitable investment account under the auspices of The COIF Charities Deposit Fund which is administered by CCLA Investment Management Limited. This account enables us to obtain better rates of return than are available to the general public whilst at the same time protecting our investment.

Question: Why should I donate to The Harvesters Trust?
Answer:

There are approximately 200,000 registered charities in England and Wales. We believe that we have something different to offer to Christians of all denominations.

The Harvesters Trust is still a relatively small charity but our internal procedures ensure that we operate in a totally professional manner. We seek and act on advice received in areas where our knowledge may be lacking, particularly with regard to charity law. The days are gone when a few like-minded people can casually sit down and decide to set up a charity. We are happy for people to offer help and advice in their own particular area of expertise.

We are fully aware of the value of money - what it costs to earn and to give. We recognise that many of our supporters are on low incomes and make every effort to ensure that every penny is wisely used, whether that be in the area of investment, grant making or capital purchases.

You may feel that a small gift does not really matter, but we want to encourage you to give whatever you can afford - your 'little' added to someone else's 'little' soon adds up. For example, since 1995, our supporters have donated more than £9000 in loose change by filling our special savings cans.

Question: What is the idea behind this Web site?
Answer:

The idea is to raise and invest £1 million for the Gospel!

My prayer is that people will read about my vision and become inspired to help.

In return for people's generosity I aim to give donors a free link to their own Web site. In time the home page should become a wonderful Christian resource.

Question: How did you come up with the idea?
Answer:

The idea of offering free links in return for donations was inspired by 21 year old University student Alex Tew. Alex originally thought up the idea of selling pixels on the Internet to raise money for his University education. You can view his website at Million Dollar Homepage.

I thought that this concept would be a wonderful way to fulfill my vision and create a useful Christian resource.

Question: I would like to donate less than £100 - what do I do?
Answer:

Of course, donors are free to donate any amount they choose - we are very grateful for any donation - large or small.

Donations of less than £100 would not qualify for a link on the home page. It is simply not possible to display anything meaningful at a size of less than 10 x 10 pixels.

To make a donation of less than £100 please click on the Paypal button at the top right of each page.

Question: How long will the Web site be online?
Answer:

I personally guarantee that the Web site will be online for a minimum of TEN YEARS!

I want donors to enjoy a free link to their website for a long time as a thank you for their generosity. In effect a £100 donation is the equivalent of paying £10 per year for an advertisment.

Question: What is Gift Aid?
Answer:

Gift Aid is one of the simplest and most effective ways of giving to charity. Using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, the charity you are supporting will receive an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue. This means that a £100 Gift Aid donation is worth £128.00 to the charity, and it doesn't cost you a thing!

Higher rate taxpayers are eligible to reclaim as much as £23 from the taxman for every £100 they donate to charity by including details of their Gift Aid donations on their Self Assessment form.

Gift Aid can apply to donations of any amount, large or small, by cash, cheque, postal order, direct debit, standing order, debit or credit card.

Providing you pay as much income and/or capital gains as the charities will be entitled to reclaim on your donations in the same financial year, you are entitled to use Gift Aid - all you have to do is complete a simple Gift Aid declaration.

You can download and complete our Gift Aid Declaration Form in either MS Word or Adobe PDF format.

Furher information is available from Giving Campaign.

Question: I am not a Christian. Can I still donate?
Answer:

Yes, you can donate but we reserve the right NOT to add a link to your Web site, particularly if your site would be considered offensive to Christians.

The intention is that the home page will mainly consist of Web sites linking to Christian charities, organisations, individuals, businesses, etc.

If you are in any doubt please contact us and we will advise.
